
Al-Taj News – A Royal Decree has been issued appointing Major General Staff Majdi Mohammad Hammad Al-Harasais as Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff, effective September 2, 2026.
A Royal Decree had previously been issued promoting Brigadier General Staff Majdi Mohammad Hammad Al-Harasais to the rank of Major General, effective September 2, 2026.
Two Royal Decrees were also issued promoting Major General Staff Yusef Ahmad Al-Hunaiti, Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff, to the rank of Lieutenant General and referring him to retirement, effective September 2, 2026.
His Majesty King Abdullah II, the Supreme Commander of the Armed Forces, addressed a letter to the Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff, Major General Staff Majdi Al-Harasais. The letter reads as follows:
“In the name of Allah, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful
Dear Brother, Major General Staff Majdi Al-Harasais, may Allah protect you,
Peace, mercy, and blessings of Allah be upon you,
It gives me pleasure to extend to you and your fellow brothers and sisters, the Nashama men and women serving in the Jordan Armed Forces-Arab Army, greetings filled with appreciation and pride for each and every one of them in their various positions.
We have known you throughout your service in the ranks of our Armed Forces as a devoted soldier serving our beloved homeland and an outstanding officer in the Arab Army. Today, following the issuance of our decree appointing you as Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff of the Armed Forces, we entrust you with the responsibility of serving our dearest Jordan and carrying out this trust with utmost care and dedication.
Dear Brother,
The Armed Forces enjoy the appreciation and respect of all Jordanians, as their officers, non-commissioned officers, and personnel continue to set the finest examples of courage, chivalry, and loyalty, keeping watch over the protection of Jordanian territory and airspace and confronting any threat targeting the nation’s capabilities and the security and safety of its citizens.
As you undertake the trust of this leadership responsibility, you must keep the nation foremost in your mind and ensure that every effort is made to serve Jordan and its people, recognizing the importance of this longstanding national institution and the need to preserve its good reputation and prestige, while continuing to strengthen its capabilities so that it remains the nation’s protective shield and steadfast defense.
Accordingly, we direct you to follow up on efforts to restructure our Armed Forces, develop the capabilities of the Arab Army, and modernize its tools, enabling it to fulfill its responsibilities and confront emerging challenges, developments, and threats with the highest levels of efficiency and readiness.
The Nashama men and women of the Armed Forces must receive the utmost attention and care to empower them and build their capabilities, including officers, non-commissioned officers, and personnel, and to ensure the highest levels of performance and professionalism. They are always the subject of our trust, pride, and esteem.
We ask Almighty Allah to assist you in shouldering this responsibility and to grant you success in achieving what is best for the Jordan Armed Forces-Arab Army. You will find from us all the support and backing.
